In the north of Portugal, the Minho River flows between green hillsides and spectacular valleys. Small producers in the region make very young wines, the so-called Vinhos Verdes, a Controlled Designation of Origin and second only to Port in exports from this country. Vinho Verde is light and fresh, somewhat acidic on the palate and can be slightly sparkling (sparkling). The Alvarinho grape is the best known in these lands.

If you visit this area, don't forget to stop by the historic sites of Guimarães, Braga, Ponte de Lima or Melgaço, or enjoy the lush nature on outdoor trails to visit farms and wineries, forests and valleys.
