What is the Eurovelo Network?

This European set of 15 cycle routes connects all of Europe and aims to promote sustainable travel.

EuroveloSpain - Javier Flores

EuroVelo is a set of European cycle tourism routes connected over long distances. The aim of this project is to link major routes on the European continent.

This type of sustainable sport is combined with tourism to provide a unique experience. There are different routes available throughout the selected geography, where cyclists can participate either for tourism or sporting purposes, or on a daily basis.

The Atlantic Coast Route: the longest route in Europe that passes through Extremadura and Portugal.

The longest route is over 9000 kilometres, starting in Norway and finishing in Portugal, crossing countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Spain.

It is precisely this route that crosses the Peninsula in its greatest dimension: from north to south, this journey passes through Extremadura via the Via de la Plata and along the coastline of Portugal, ending at Cape St. Vincent.

"I would love to participate but...", Do you have any doubts?

Don't panic: it is not compulsory to walk it in its entirety.

There are different stages throughout the journey. Extremadura and Portugal are home to fantastic routes with specific kilometres, perfect for all those who wish to take part.

There are also locations that organise activities around the EuroVelo and cycle short sections within the city centre, so you don't need to be in impeccable physical shape or be used to great effort: this activity is also made to enjoy the places you cycle through and to spend a different cultural and sporting day.

EuroVelo is another way of getting to know the geography of Extremadura and Portugal. We provide you with the opportunity to get to know both routes and unique locations with different activities related to this practice. Are you up for it? We have the perfect getaway for you.
