Summer is not just a time to go to the beach and spend a week relaxing: many people enjoy trips where culture and leisure come together with different activities.

There are different routes that provide this type of getaway for these travellers. Visits to different cities and locations that tell stories and house the scenes of great series and historic moments.

We tell you about these three routes available in Extremadura and Portugal that can be easily done.

Gastronomic Route: the Cheese Route

There are many Spanish and Portuguese cheeses with worldwide renown. From sheep's cheese to goat's cheese or cow's cheese, they include many types such as creamy, cured, blends, etc.

This part of the gastronomy does not go unnoticed in Extremadura, the Alentejo and Central Portugal: some are as well known as Torta del Casar (winner of many world prizes), Serpa cheese (very famous in the Alentejo and of semi-soft paste) or Serra da Estrella cheese (the oldest Portuguese cheese).

And how to do this route? The best is to combine from cities or wineries where you can taste different dishes in specialised restaurants with direct visits to cheese dairies that show you the elaboration process. Ask us!

Historical Route: learn about the passage of the Roman Empire

With an indelible mark, Lusitania (part of Hispania where the areas of Extremadura and Portugal were located) was one of the most important Roman territories in the Iberian Peninsula. Rome left a legacy of monuments that can still be seen today in the theatres, amphitheatres, temples and spas.

There are trips from north to south of Extremadura and Portugal that combine destinations with memorable places. Places with unique open-air theatres such as Cáparra, city centres with great monuments such as Mérida or cities with buildings perfect for a journey through time such as Évora.

Depending on the number of days available, the route can be longer or shorter: would you like us to organise it for you?

Film Route: do you enjoy visiting the locations of your favourite series?

Extremadura has been the setting for numerous television series and films; the Alentejo and Centro, in Portugal, are not far behind either, as their geography and locations have become the backdrop for a variety of filmographies.

Some may be even more familiar: would you like to visit the setting of Blackwater in the series "Game of Thrones", or perhaps you are familiar with the Spanish series "Hispania"? Are you familiar with the film "House of the Spirits" starring Meryl Streep?

All these titles have been filmed on location in Extremadura and Portugal: Plasencia, Cáceres, Évora... Would you like to see them?

Enjoy a trip this summer in safety and with the desire to discover great destinations. Ask without obligation and we will inform you of everything you need.
