Miles Gloriosus is a braggart and narcissistic military man, who has kidnapped a beautiful young woman and kept her in his house where his slave also lives. This man knew this woman and is the man she is truly in love with.

Its heyday was during Roman rule. before the name: Regina Tuldulorum. Its great location linking the Betic Region with Lusitania (Seville and Cordoba with Merida) and the wealth of its lands led to its foundation (mining, water and agriculture).

The Roman Theatre has a magnificent charm for being in the middle of nowhere. On top of this, you can visit some Roman ruins and an Alcazaba, and nearby you can visit an old mine, a chapel that is known as the Sistine Chapel of Spain and a town full of charms where the famous Zurbarán settled. Last but not least, this is a perfect setting for stargazing.

Theatre Festival

It was inaugurated in 1933 in Extremadura and is considered one of the most relevant in its field. It not only has incredible scenery such as the Roman theatres, but also great staging that makes it magical and unique.

It is held every year in the Roman theatres of the cities and has spread to other regions.

This year, with the COVID-19 security measures in place, is its 68th edition and there are great plays to enjoy: "The Misanthrope", "Minerva", "Miles Gloriousus", "Aroma of Rome", and much more...

Roman Theatre

The Roman theatre of the Extremaduran capital was inaugurated around 15-16 AD by the consul Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, with the aim of "romanising" the people of the city: the theatre authorities promoted Roman government and customs.

The Region of Extremadura has many Roman theatres in its territory.
