There is still no estimated date for the cherry blossom, but thanks to the good weather, it is expected to begin in mid-March. Stay tuned because if you are interested in seeing this spectacle of nature, we will keep updating the dates.
The Jerte Valley is an ideal place to do different activities in spring and surround yourself with nature, at a time when you will see the valley in all its splendour. So, here are some recommendations to help you plan your getaway and make the most of the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Viewing the cherry tree from privileged sites
Every year more than one and a half million cherry trees blossom in the valley, which translates into a route of more than 50 km that you can take by car through the different villages that make up the Jerte Valley. But if you want to see the cherry blossom from the best places, we recommend some viewpoints such as
the viewpoint of La Memoria, in El Torno, the viewpoint of Piornal or the viewpoint of Puerto de Tornavacas. Here is an exclusive recommendation, take note: In Cabezuela del Valle, you will find the hermitage of San Felipe and Santiago, which is located at the top of a hill and from where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Jerte Valley.
The Valley fills with many visitors, both from Spain and abroad, in the months of March and April, attracted by the beauty of the cherry blossom.
Some charming villages where you can stay are Tornavacas, El Piornal, Jerte, Cabezuela del Valle and Rebollar. In these villages you can discover their traditions and their people, as well as their gastronomy, including, of course, the picota, the cherry with the designation of origin of this area.
If you want to discover this area, we recommend that you book your accommodation well in advance.
If you are visiting the Jerte Valley from Madrid, the quickest way is via the A-5 motorway, but we recommend that you take the route that passes through Ávila because you will be able to cover the whole valley and enjoy beautiful views from the Puerto de Tornavacas pass. If you are coming from the south, from cities such as Seville, the most direct way to get there is via the A-66 motorway, which crosses the whole of the Peninsula.
